Alexis Sanchez was in high spirits in his return to training, according to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

Speculation over the Chilean star’s future continues to swirl as he enters the final year of his contract, but Wenger has been steadfast in his stance that Sanchez will not be sold this summer.

Negotiations between his representatives and Arsenal officials have seemingly stalled, but Wenger revealed Sanchez was jubilant upon his return to training just two days after Arsenal came from behind to beat Leicester City 4-3 in its season opener Friday.

“He practised well today, this morning, had a good session for the first time because he had a little muscular strain,” Wenger said, according to The Telegraph. “He is focused and happy in the dressing room because we won the game.”

Sanchez missed the Leicester fixture with an abdominal injury, and Wenger believes Sanchez is a doubt to feature against Stoke City on Aug. 19.

Wenger previously suggested he’s prepared to let Sanchez leave on a free transfer next summer if the 28-year-old refuses to sign a new contract rather than allow him to place the club in an awkward position just weeks before the transfer window closes.

It’s a decision that is backed by the club’s board despite the fact Arsenal could miss out on collecting a substantial sum if Sanchez doesn’t agree to new terms.

Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain have been the most consistently rumoured destinations, with the latter reportedly willing to cough up €87 million (£80 million) even though the French side is fresh off paying €222 million to secure the services of Neymar from Barcelona.
