Watch: Harper ejected after slamming helmet near ump

Washington Nationals star outfielder Bryce Harper was ejected from Saturday’s game against the Colorado Rockies after slamming his helmet near home-plate umpire Mike Winters following a called third strike during the 10th inning.

The game was tied 4-4 at the time of Harper’s ejection, though the Rockies added five runs in the top half of the 11th to secure the 9-4 win.

Harper’s second ejection of the season and eighth of his career came after Jake McGee‘s fifth pitch of the 10th-inning at-bat. According to MLB Gameday, the pitch appeared to catch the outside of the plate.

It’s not the first run-in Harper’s had with officials this season. The reigning National League MVP was suspended one game in May for famously shouting profanities at home-plate umpire Brian Knight when he returned to the field after being ejected from a game against the Detroit Tigers innings earlier.

Harper, who had an RBI double in the fourth, has been heating up at the plate recently. He entered Saturday batting .354 with a 1.011 OPS in August, while collecting at least two hits in six of his last seven games.
