Tottenham's Pochettino unimpressed by Lamela's showboating

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has taken a dim view on Erik Lamela‘s flamboyant touches, preferring the attacking midfielder to just focus on winning matches.

The Argentinian cheekily rolled the ball between the legs of Crystal Palace winger and former teammate Andros Townsend last Saturday, drawing appreciative cheers from the White Hart Lane faithful – but Pochettino isn’t a fan.

“I can understand the reaction,” he said. “To be honest, I don’t like this kind of thing.

“I understand the supporters enjoy it a lot but I enjoy winning games and scoring goals. For me it was an action but there is nothing more to say. It doesn’t create any emotion in me but I understand that it’s football and the supporters like this type of thing.”

Tottenham full-back Danny Rose had a similar reaction to those in the stands. He was sighted putting his hands to his head when Lamela produced his party trick, but did feel sorry for his old colleague.

“I just thought: ‘Erik, why did you do that?’ It was brilliant to watch, I just wish it was against another player and not Andros. It was brilliant, sorry Andros,” explained Rose.

There appears to be something from that Crystal Palace bout that Pochettino did enjoy, however. Wilfried Zaha, the Eagles’ 23-year-old flank wanderer, was the subject of a rejected bid from Spurs on Thursday, adding to the well-documented pursuit of Marseille‘s Georges-Kevin Nkoudou.

Tottenham faces a visit from Liverpool in Saturday’s Premier League matches.
