DeAndre Yedlin is currently in Newcastle to complete a medical before joining the Magpies on a permanent transfer from Tottenham, according to Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas.

The 23-year-old spent last season on the other side of the Tyne-Wear divide at Sunderland, making 21 starts as the Black Cats narrowly escaped the clutches of relegation.

Although he participated in preseason friendlies with Spurs, the U.S. international clearly has no future with them. The likes of Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier are ahead of Yedlin at the right-back position.

Aston Villa had emerged as a potential landing spot for the American, but the Villans opted to bring in Ritchie De Laet from Leicester City instead.

ESPN FC also suggested that Sunderland could re-sign Yedlin on a permanent deal, but nothing has come of that report.

Yedlin only played 11 Premier League minutes for Tottenham after sealing a move from the Seattle Sounders in 2014. He spent the remainder of the 2014 MLS season in Cascadia as he waited to secure a work permit.

Interest in Yedlin from several European clubs ramped up as a result of his performances at the 2014 World Cup, where he made an incredible impact as a late substitute for the U.S.
