Marco Estrada‘s return to form could benefit the Toronto Blue Jays with future assets.

Estrada was reportedly placed on revocable trade waivers Friday and one rival executive told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports he expects a team in need of starting pitching will claim the right-hander.

An All-Star in 2016, Estrada received little to no interest ahead of the non-waiver trade deadline due to his 5.43 ERA. However, the 34-year-old has been much improved lately, posting a 2.08 ERA over his last four starts while holding opponents to a .181/.257/.330 slash line.

Estrada is a free agent at the end of this season, and is owed almost $4 million over the next two months. Rosenthal adds that if the Blue Jays are to trade him – which they aren’t forced to even if a team does claim him – they will want something in return, and won’t just deal Estrada in order to receive salary relief.

The Blue Jays, who rank second in the American League in attendance, enter play Sunday four games back of the second wild-card spot, but with seven teams ahead of them.
