The New England Patriots have traded center Bryan Stork to the Washington Redskins for a conditional draft pick, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

It was reported earlier Wednesday by Rapoport and other outlets that the Patriots were set to release Stork after two seasons with the club. But after informing him of their intention, New England traded the center before making the move official.

It appears the Redskins didn’t want to risk losing Stork when he hit waivers, swooping in late in the process to acquire the third-year pro.

Stork started 17 games during his two seasons in New England, but appeared set to lose his starting job to David Andrews.

The 25-year-old suffered a concussion during the 2015 campaign, and reportedly suffered another as training camp started, keeping him sidelined until Aug. 8.
