Report: Karlos Williams goes unclaimed

Second-year running back Karlos Williams went unclaimed off waivers from the Buffalo Bills after the team released him Saturday, reports NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

He will now be an unrestricted free agent.

Williams will still be subject to a four-game suspension he was handed for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. He also showed up to Bills training camp severely overweight, which heavily contributed to his release.

Going unclaimed is somewhat of a surprise given the low risk involved involved with acquiring him. If a team desired, they could bring in Williams for the last two weeks of preseason and tell him to get in shape by the time his suspension is up or be released again.

Williams ran for 517 yards on 93 attempts with nine total touchdowns in his rookie campaign last season.
