Report: Icardi to sign new Inter deal with potential €100M release clause

Inter striker Mauro Icardi is set to extend his contract with the Nerazzurri amid reported interest from Napoli.

The 2014-15 Serie A capocannoniere is expected to finalise a five-year deal worth €5 million per season, according to Fabrizio Romano of Sky Sport Italia and the Guardian. The agreement may also include a €100-million release clause, which would undoubtedly end Napoli’s pursuit of the Argentinian poacher.

The Partenopei apparently met with Icardi’s entourage following the departure of Gonzalo Higuain. They have since brought in Polish striker Arkadiusz Milik to replace Higuain, but talk of a potential €55-million move for Icardi still lingered.

Romano’s colleague, Gianluca Di Marzio, said Napoli was prepared to increase Icardi’s wages to somewhere around €5 million – the same figure he’s now set to earn at the San Siro.

New Inter manager Frank de Boer was in no mood to discuss Icardi’s possible departure in his first press conference last week, assuring reporters that the club’s top scorer is not for sale.

And it now appears he will get his way.

Inter opens its Serie A campaign Sunday at Chievo Verona.
