Joe Hart has reportedly resigned himself to the fact his career at Manchester City will continue after the transfer window closes.

Hart will stay at the Etihad Stadium despite the likelihood of becoming manager Pep Guardiola’s third-choice ‘keeper, reports Jamie Jackson of the Guardian.

Hart will find himself down the pecking order behind Willy Caballero, who has started the team’s first two Premier League matches, and transfer target Claudio Bravo once the Chilean ‘keeper completes his reported move from Barcelona in the coming days.

It could also damage Hart’s chances of retaining his starting role with the English national team. Although new manager Sam Allardyce confirmed Hart will be selected ahead of next month’s World Cup qualifiers, he admitted doubt over future selections if Hart continues to find himself on the bench at City.

A lack of offers will see Hart remain with the club for now, and he’ll likely have another opportunity to leave in January after failing to come across an interested suitor that appeals to him, Jackson adds.

In spite of his role as a reserve, Guardiola provided a glimmer of hope when he hinted Tuesday that Hart could start a Champions League qualifying match against Steaua Bucurest.

City enjoys a 5-0 aggregate lead heading into Wednesday’s second leg at the Etihad.
