Patriots' Butler laments wasted reps after fight with Jeffery

New England Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler is ruing his fight with Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery.

Butler was ejected from Monday’s joint practice after squaring off against the Bears’ top receiver. The players had to be separated, and Patriots head coach Bill Belichick swiftly kicked the Pro Bowl cornerback out of the session.

Following Thursday’s 23-22 win over the Bears, Butler expressed regret about the confrontation.

“I just learned from it and moved on,” Butler said to Ryan Hannable of WEEI. “Wasting quality reps out there, you know I could be getting better at the same time. … You’re going to have those mistakes. I learned from it and moved on. Went back out there the next day trying to be the best football player I could be.”

Belichick implemented a strict no-fighting policy for joint practices, and it’s more than likely Butler will follow the rules next time.
