Oxlade-Chamberlain takes aim at Henry over 'stupid' remarks

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain‘s transfer to Liverpool last summer triggered plenty of discussion over what many thought was an inflated price tag when Arsenal agreed to sell the winger.

The opening weeks and months of his Liverpool career saw Oxlade-Chamberlain regularly come off the bench, as manager Jurgen Klopp eased the England international into his system. In recent weeks, the 24-year-old has evolved into an integral component to Liverpool’s success, scoring a pair of goals and providing five assists.

But critical comments earlier in the season from Arsenal legend Thierry Henry obviously struck a chord after the Frenchman claimed he couldn’t figure out the winger’s strengths despite playing alongside Oxlade-Chamberlain during a brief loan spell.

“Those comments are probably a bit stupid,” Oxlade-Chamberlain, who also addressed criticism from former Manchester United defender Gary Neville, said, according to Andy Hunter of the Guardian.

“When you have watched someone long enough you know what they can do. If it was aimed more at the end product side of things and doing those things that lead to scoring a goal or setting up a goal then fair enough, I will take those comments on the chin.

“Saying you don’t know what I do, when you have worked with me, I think is a bit stupid. If they are referencing more end product then that is fair enough, I hold my hands up. That is something that I have been working on and still need to work on.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain added he has no plans to contact either pundit: “If people want to say those things, you remember them, you don’t forget them, but I am not here to make enemies.”
