Juan Pablo Montoya’s passion for racing is still on fire.

The veteran driver of the No. 2 DeVilbiss Team Penske Chevrolet has struggled as of late, but it hasn’t changed his approach and desire to win.

“Yeah, I still have the passion to drive the hell out of it,” Montoya told NBC Sports’ Tony DiZinno. “I’m as competitive as I’ve ever been. It’s just heartbreaking when things don’t go your way. It’s been interesting lately.”

Montoya, who is set to race in Toronto and mid-Ohio, went from third in points before the Indianapolis 500 to 11th place after Iowa. In both cases, he went in believing he had a winning car.

Either way, Montoya, 40, still wants to win and he doesn’t feel the need to retire as long as he wants to race, and come out on top.

“When you don’t get the result, it still sucks because you want to perform,” he said. “The day you don’t have pressure, you gotta stop racing. And I push myself really hard.”
