It’s scary to fathom, but apparently the basketball world has yet to see the best of Golden State Warriors guard and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Stephen Curry.

“Steph is at his absolute peak right now, physically and emotionally,” said Warriors head coach Steve Kerr on Thursday, according to 95.7 The Game’s John Dickinson. “This is probably as good as he’s ever going to be this year. I think he’s better now than he was last year and the year before, and that’s saying something.

“He’s the most impactful offensive player in terms of what he does to the defense maybe ever. There’s guys – obviously Michael Jordan impacted things – but the way Steph plays puts the fear of God into defenses like nobody I’ve ever seen.”

His scoring numbers dipped in 2016-17, with Kevin Durant‘s presence certainly factoring in. But Curry still managed to finish 10th in the Association in points per game with 25.3, while also connecting on the second-most 3-pointers for a season ever with 324.

When he scored 30 or more points, Golden State notched a record of 25-2. The team’s offense was also 14.6 points better per 100 possessions when he was on the floor, further emphasizing his value to the Warriors’ elite scoring attack.

If Kerr truly believes Curry can go above and beyond what he’s already shown, the 29 other teams looking to knock the reigning champs off their pedestal could have a harder time doing so than previously imagined.
