Phil Jackson has kept a low profile since departing his job as president of the New York Knicks in June, but he did offer a few words this week to longtime NBA journalist Peter Vecsey.

“I’m still on hold about WTF just went down the past 3 years of Knick basketball,” Jackson said in correspondence to Vecsey, according to his Patreon account (paywalled, h/t HoopsHype). “In that regard, I’m not angry, but disappointed I couldn’t fulfill the mission. Winning is a priority in NY and I couldn’t get those guys into at least a .500 season so we could get some free space to rebuild.”

Jackson and the Knicks “mutually agreed to part ways” June 28, although his act had worn thin, especially after publicly admitting the team had gauged trade interest in its best player asset, Kristaps Porzingis.

Despite drafting Porzingis in 2015, in three years as team president Jackson was best known for blunders such as giving Carmelo Anthony a no-trade clause, making an insensitive characterization about LeBron James‘ business partners, and reportedly falling asleep during a pre-draft workout.
