Cowboys' Prescott dazzles vs. Dolphins

Dak Prescott is proving he’s ready for the professional ranks during the preseason.

Prescott excelled for the Dallas Cowboys on Friday evening against the Miami Dolphins, going 12-of-15 for 199 yards, two touchdowns, and a perfect 158.3 QB rating. The rookie quarterback also added 28 yards rushing and two more touchdowns on three carries.

Selected in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, Prescott belied his draft status, delivering a picturesque touchdown pass to Dez Bryant.

It’s Prescott’s second consecutive strong outing, after finishing 10-of-12 for 139 yards and two touchdowns during the Cowboys’ preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams.

Although Tony Romo is locked in as the incumbent starter, Prescott appears to be an excellent contingency plan if the veteran is injured or struggles to regain his form. Romo went 4-of-5 in a limited outing Friday.

Romo gave credit to Alfred Morris and Prescott for engineering a strong running game.

“We were able to run the ball today. The entire first half when I was in and with Dak we have been able to run it. That’s going to make the game a lot easier. Then it’s just going out and executing,” Romo said to ESPN’s Todd Archer.
