Kane Williamson has been ruled out of the second one-day international in Mount Maunganui due to a hamstring strain with Tim Southee taking over the captaincy.

Mark Chapman, who played in the T20 tri-series, comes into the side. He previously played two ODIs for Hong Kong in 2015, making a century on debut against UAE. Pace bowler Lockie Ferguson was also recalled at the expense of Ish Sodhi as New Zealand tinkered with the balance of their attack for the first day-night ODI at Bay Oval.

England were unchanged and Eoin Morgan sent New Zealand in, favouring a chase under lights with an outside chance of a shower during the event. They resisted the temptation of bringing some extra pace into the attack with the uncapped Craig Overton. Mark Wood remained unavailable with his ankle niggle although the problem is not considered serious.

New Zealand: 1 Martin Guptill, 2 Colin Munro, 3 Mark Chapman, 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Tom Latham (wk), 6 Henry Nicholls, 7 Colin de Grandhomme, 8 Mitchell Santner, 9 Tim Southee (capt), 10 Trent Boult, 11 Lockie Ferguson

England: 1 Jason Roy, 2 Jonny Bairtsow (wk), 3 Joe Root, 4 Eoin Morgan, 5 Ben Stokes, 6 Jos Buttler, (wk), 7 Moeen Ali, 8 Chris Woakes, 9 David Willey, 10 Tom Curran, 11 Adil Rashid
