Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson rejected the notion of a power struggle between himself and former executive vice president of player personnel Sashi Brown during a press conference Thursday.

Brown was fired Thursday, but Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said Jackson will remain head coach through 2018.

During Brown and Jackson’s shared tenure, the Browns have a 1-27 record over the past two seasons.

Jackson will continue to lead the Browns through a massive rebuild but said he didn’t try to push Brown out during a trying season as his team remains winless.

“I didn’t win a power struggle. I don’t see a power struggle,” Jackson said via Mary Kay Cabot of

Jackson said he believed Haslam will allow him to be involved in trying to find the team’s next GM. Although Brown didn’t have the official title, he served as the team’s de facto GM during his tenure.

The Browns have four games left to avoid a winless season and it’s on Jackson to avoid this dubious record as the season reaches its final stages.
