Eugenie Bouchard’s hopes of winning her first Olympic medal in singles came to an end Monday, the 22-year-old Canadian losing in straight sets to world No. 2 Angelique Kerber of Germany.

After an impressive start saw Bouchard build a 4-1 lead in the opening set, Kerber came roaring back en route to a 6-4, 6-2 victory; a triumph that was aided significantly by Bouchard’s 36 unforced errors.

The Montreal native is still alive in the doubles tournament, her and partner Gabriela Dabrowski winning their first-round match last week.
