Benteke apologises after mistaking Crystal Palace for Burnley

Crystal Palace‘s record signing Christian Benteke failed to make a good first impression with his new club, mistaking the Croydon side for newly promoted Burnley in his Twitter bio.

Benteke, who cost Palace a reported £27-million fee, quickly corrected the error and apologised on the social media service upon noticing the gaffe.

However, he tried to avoid the blame and place it on whomever runs his Twitter account:

The reason for the mix-up is unclear. Burnley’s Turf Moor is a four-hour car ride away from Palace’s Selhurst Park, with neither side sharing anything except for their working-class backgrounds.

Benteke wasn’t part of Alan Pardew’s squad for the London derby against Tottenham, which finished 1-0 to Spurs thanks to a late goal from Victor Wanyama.

Regardless of Benteke’s blooper, Palace is in desperate need of his goal-scoring abilities. The Eagles have failed to hit the back of the net in two matches this season.

The 25-year-old Belgium international will look to revive his career after enduring a miserable year with Liverpool, where he registered just nine Premier League tallies.
