Despite the irresistible pull of Premier League football at the Emirates Stadium, torrid Lyon striker and longtime Arsenal target Alexandre Lacazette has finally decided to stay where he is.

The 25-year-old Frenchman has been open about his wish to play in England at some point in his career, but he apparently hasn’t reached that juncture quite yet.

Lacazette has already scored five goals in Lyon’s first two Ligue 1 matches of the new campaign – including two penalties against Caen on Friday – and he’s perfectly happy to add to his plunder in his home land.

“On a personal level, I would like to surpass the 30-goal threshold this season,” he told Lyon’s official website. “There will be no departure. Everything is going well here at OL.”

It’s a change in tone from Lacazette, who has hesitated to use such certain terms to describe his future. The subject of a €38-million offer from Arsenal in July – a bid that was ultimately rejected by his club – Lacazette seemed to keep his options open.

But Arsenal may well move on to other targets after hearing of his new stance.

The Gunners had reportedly been willing to submit a second bid worth €41.5-million for the player, but Lyon’s proven difficult at the negotiating table. Les Gones also turned down Napoli‘s advances for midfielder Corentin Tolisso during the transfer window, though they allowed Samuel Umtiti to go to Barcelona earlier in the offseason.
