The Los Angeles Angels traded outfielder Daniel Nava to the Kansas City Royals on Monday for a player to be named later.

Nava agreed to a one-year deal with the Angels in December but was designated for assignment July 30. He’s spent the last month playing with Triple-A Salt Lake, hitting .365/.413/.471 with one home run and six doubles in 22 games. It’s expected that he’ll join the Royals Triple-A affiliate in Omaha.

The 33-year-old is capable of playing both left and right field in addition to first base. In 45 games with the Angels, Nava hit .235/.309/.303 with one home run, five doubles, and 26 strikeouts.

The move gives the Royals additional outfield depth, with Nava likely to be used when rosters expand in September.
